Description

7050 aluminum plate is a high-strength heat-treatable alloy with extremely high strength, good mechanical properties and anodic reaction. It also exhibits excellent resistance to spalling corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.

The mechanical properties of 7050 aluminum plates will be different after different heat treatment states (such as T7351, T7451, T7651, etc.)

I. 7075 T7451 Aluminum Plate Product Applications​

Compared to 6000 – series alloys (e.g., 6061 and 6063):
6000 – series aluminum alloys, which contain magnesium and silicon, are known for their good general – purpose corrosion resistance, especially in mild atmospheric conditions. They are often used in architectural applications, such as window frames and curtain walls, due to their ability to form a protective oxide layer. However, when it comes to more aggressive environments like those with high humidity, salt spray, or exposure to certain chemicals, 7050 T7451 outperforms them significantly.
The 7050 T7451 alloy’s superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and exfoliation corrosion makes it a preferred choice for aerospace components where the consequences of corrosion – related failures can be catastrophic. 6000 – series alloys may experience pitting corrosion or intergranular corrosion under such severe conditions, which can gradually weaken the material over time.

 

In contrast to 5000 – series alloys (e.g., 5052 and 5083):
5000 – series aluminum alloys, with magnesium as the primary alloying element, offer excellent corrosion resistance in marine and other chloride – rich environments. They are commonly used in boat hulls and marine structures.
While 5000 – series alloys have good general corrosion resistance, 7050 T7451 provides a better combination of high strength and corrosion resistance. 5000 – series alloys generally have lower strength compared to 7050 T7451, so in applications where both high strength and corrosion resistance are required, such as in military vehicle components or aerospace parts, 7050 T7451 is more suitable.
Moreover, 7050 T7451’s ability to resist SCC under high – stress conditions gives it an edge over 5000 – series alloys in critical structural applications.
Versus 2000 – series alloys (e.g., 2024):
2000 – series aluminum alloys, which contain copper as the main alloying element, are renowned for their high strength. However, their corrosion resistance, especially to SCC, is relatively poor compared to 7050 T7451. 2024 alloy was once widely used in the aerospace industry but has been gradually replaced by 7050 T7451 and other high – performance alloys in many applications due to its vulnerability to corrosion in certain environments.
7050 T7451 not only matches or exceeds the strength of 2024 alloy in many cases but also offers far better protection against corrosion, ensuring longer service life and higher reliability of components.
