AL6061-T6 Aluminum bar is a round bar or flat bar made of 6061 aluminum alloy as the base material and strengthened by the T6 heat treatment process.
6061 aluminum alloy belongs to the Al-Mg-Si system of heat-treatable alloys. By adding elements such as magnesium and silicon to form the Mg2Si strengthening phase, combined with T6 solution treatment and artificial aging process, it possesses high strength, good corrosion resistance, and excellent machinability, making it one of the most widely used aluminum alloy materials in industrial fields.
The T6 condition of AL6061-T6 aluminum bar indicates that the material has undergone complete solution treatment (holding at 530℃±5℃ followed by rapid cooling) and artificial aging (holding at 175℃±5℃ for 8 hours). This process causes the uniform precipitation of the Mg2Si strengthening phase, significantly improving the material’s hardness and tensile strength.
Its typical mechanical properties are: tensile strength ≥290MPa, yield strength ≥240MPa, elongation ≥10%, and hardness exceeding HB95 (approximately 130HV). Simultaneously, the 6061 alloy contains 0.4%-0.8% silicon and 0.8%-1.2% magnesium, forming stable intermetallic compounds that maintain good plasticity and weldability while ensuring strength.
High-quality 6061 T6 aluminum bar products should be free of defects such as pinholes and scratches, with strict tolerance control (e.g., diameter tolerance can reach ±0.05mm), and should pass international standard certifications such as ASTM B557 and EN 755.
Diameter and Length Selection: Common diameter ranges are 2.0mm-580mm, and lengths are 3.0mm-6000mm, which need to be determined based on load requirements and machining allowances. For example, for shafts used in precision instruments, it is recommended to choose high-precision products with a diameter tolerance of ±0.05mm and a length tolerance of ±1mm;
Surface Treatment Compatibility: If corrosion protection or decoration is required, anodizing (thickness 5-25μm), sandblasting, etc., can be performed. However, it is important to ensure that surface oil stains are thoroughly removed before oxidation.
With the increasing demand for lightweight materials, AL6061-T6 round bars are developing towards higher precision and customization. Production follows standard procedures, and common forms include T651 pre-stretched material. It possesses moderate strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and strong processing adaptability.
This material boasts a tensile strength of 310 MPa, a yield strength of 276 MPa, a hardness of 95 HB, and a thermal conductivity of 167 W/(m·K).
6061 T6 aluminum bar can be fabricated into PC board solder carriers, 5G base station heat sinks, automated machinery parts, mold manufacturing, and precision electronic instrument components. Ultrasonic shot peening significantly enhances its corrosion resistance.
